Tests are a critical part to any professional software that you write. It has been this way for years - working on any professional team with good processes and you should (I hope) always see good quality tests and good culture to encourage writing good tests.

But this is an investment that almost always pays off - even nowadays with AI. (I would actually argue that tests are even more important now with the rise of AI agents doing a lot of software development!).
